Together, with millions around the world, we mourn the loss of a multi-talented actor, writer, comedian
and friend, Steve Allen. We join with them in offering our heartfelt condolences to his wonderful wife Jayne Meadows and family.
Steve's very special blend of sophisticated humor, gentlemanly charm and musical magic touched
us all in many wondrous ways.
But beyond the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, there was another Steve Allen. A man of caring and compassion, a man who was as passionate about important issues as he was about entertainment.
This was the Steve we knew personally. The Steve who graced our home page with his infectious smile and larger than life presence, the Steve who generously gave of his valuable time and energy to help the Foundation reach
fellow Americans regarding of the scourge that is macular degeneration via national television public service announcements on ABC.
Steve Allen's invaluable contribution helped us create a much-needed awareness of the
disgraceful under-funding of macular degeneration research and laid the groundwork for a program of fundraising to support accelerated research around the country.
Indeed, prior to the time of his passing, Steve had offered
to host a Foundation fundraiser in Hollywood to support the Foundation's research program. His loss is thus yours and ours too in a very measurable way.
In response to your numerous phone calls and requests to recognize
Steve's association with the Foundation we encourage you to support the good work that he spurred.
Your assistance in funding the research that Steve believed critically important to the sight of his fellow Americans will
ensure that an important part of his legacy will be what he passionately wanted - improved vision for us all.
