=====================================

1.  VOICE PORTALS - There are services called "Voice Portals"  that offer toll-free telephone access to many internet services.  While the majority of users are accessing the internet from cellular phones,  more and more blind and low-vision persons are finding it a valuable tool.  Here are links to two such "Voice Portals".

2.  NEW CHAT ROOM - We've installed a new CHAT ROOM on the Foundation's web site.   You no longer need to remember passwords.  Simply enter your name and join the group.  Features include instant  translation between eight common languages and font size adjustment.  In addition,  you may now PAGE any other person that is monitoring the Chat Room (see "Advanced" features on the Chat Room menu)

To facilitate its use, we suggest checking the Chat Room for others at set times during the day:   6:00am, 9:00am, 12:00pm, 3:00pm and 6:00pm  Pacific Time (USA).  We are  considering the invitation of guest visitors to the Chat Room.  Please let us know how you feel about that.

Email:  eyesight@eyesight.org

The Chat Room is available from the Foundation's Home Page (www.eyesight.org) or directly from the following link:

3.   COMPUTERS AND LOW VISION - Today's computers can open up a New World of information, communication, and entertainment, especially for those with low vision. Not only have computers become more powerful and faster, software for low vision users has also advanced.  In addition, recent price reductions make this a good time to get into the computer world.  E-mail can help overcome the isolation that often accompanies low vision, and the Internet can help with independence in shopping, arranging travel, managing your finances, reading newspapers and magazines, hobbies, etc.  And it is easier now for a person with low vision and no prior computer experience to get into the computer world than ever before.

4. On February 27th, 2001, PBS NOVA presented  "Cancer Warriors", featuring ANGIOGENESIS INHIBITORS research work being done at Harvard Medical School.  It mentioned several diseases, including Macular Degeneration, that may benefit from further study.   Look for repeat showings on your local PBS station.
